The Australian Government's Better Access Initiative provides Medicare rebates to access psychological support from a psychologist or mental health social worker. To access these rebates you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan which is issued by your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician, written collaboratively between you and your doctor, outlining your mental health goals and treatment options. This plan & referral allows you to claim up to 10 individual Medicare subsidised sessions each calendar year leaving a gap fee to pay of only $60.
